Can you believe that no department store/video rental in this country (or New Zealand) stocks this classic film, and they ceased production of it years ago... However, to my surprise and utter delight, I just found a copy of the DVD in my university library (I only started 2 weeks ago). I couldn't believe my luck, or my eyes. I took it back to my room straight away and watched it, and I was NOT disappointed. What brillian little film!
It's great to see something by Scorsese that's so raw and personal. He was much bolder back then; he still had something to prove. Mean Streets was defiantly worth the wait, as it’s up there Taxi Driver and Raging Bull in the director’s body of work. I'll be burning it naturally, and I won't even have to bear the guilt of "robbing studios of their rightful income" since there's nigh a single copy of this masterpiece in the southern hemisphere.
