Thoughts on the Avatar Trailer/James Cameron (film article)

Is it just me, or does the CGI in this trailer look really obvious? This is a film that cost (conservatively) $450 million, and yet I found the creatures in District 9 ($30 million) far more convincing. I want this movie to be good, but it's looking more and more like a collossal pixellated wank-athon.


If I was going to really brutal, I'd say that Cameron hasn't made a film in over ten years, and that Titanic was not that great. True Lies before it was a fun, action romp, and while Terminator 2 before that featured some amazing action sequences and special effects, it lacked the horror/sci-fi elements that made the original such a masterpiece, and was brought down by Furlong's annoying performance and Swartzenegger's growing campiness. Now, I still haven't seen The Abyss, and for Terminator and Aliens alone this guy deserves the respect he gets, but it seems to me that, like many of his peers, Cameron was a talented director who peaked in the late 80's, and is now just running on hype.
